History of the Osteopathic clinic in Exeter

Established by Colin Crewdson in 1985 in Richmond Rd near the Exeter Clock Tower. After joining forces with Warwick Downes, we moved to Walnut Gardens in 1996, sharing premises with BBC Radio Devon. There we were joined by Paul Thompson and David Stainer-Smith. We relocated to our current premises at 6 Baring Crescent in September 2014. Warwick Downes made the decision to retire in January 2016. We moved again in late 2022 back across town to 47 Queen Street near the clock tower.

Our colleagues

Sharing our clinic space is the well-respected Clinic of Chinese Medicine, run by Simon King. Simon has been with us since our move to our present building, working with both acupuncture and Chinese herbs, and providing us with invaluable additional perspectives to difficult clinical problems.

As a group of highly motivated professionals, we are able to cross-refer when this is helpful clinically.

A brief history of osteopathy

The term ‘osteopathy’ was first used by Andrew Taylor Still in 1874. The origin of the word is from the Greek for bone (osteon) and suffering (pathos).
